The 6 Types of Christmas Shoppers

Which one best describes you?

Time for a little fun. Every day, I hear about all the ups and downs of Christmas shopping. For some people, it’s the holliest, jolliest time of their year as they do heel kicks all the way home from the mall. For others, they’re like Charlie Brown, just enduring the chaos and commercialization of Christmas until it’s over.

I confess; I’ve been both.

So, for fun, I thought I’d compile a list of 6 types of Christmas shoppers and see where you land.

The 6 Christmas Shoppers

1. The Team Leader

Black Friday is the day you lay siege, with schedules, lists, maps, snacks, caffeine, and an arsenal of coupons. You charge the gates of each store with your squadron of devoted deal hunters, even if it’s 4:00 a.m. Afterward, you bask in the impossible, money-saving discounts you just  scored. Christmas shopping is a mission. You are Ethan Hunt.

2. The One-Click Wonder

You can say with the utmost pride and sincerity that you never left your house once to go Christmas shopping. You bought every present online, in your pajamas, and didn’t miss the traffic, long lines, or grouchy shoppers one bit. Even though you’re feeling the early onset of carpal tunnel, you’re quite positive you’ll never leave the house to shop for Christmas again. Shoot, with the rise of Amazon One-Click and shopping on your smart phone, you might never need to get out of bed.

3. The Four Seasons Shopper

Any day is Christmas when you have giving in your heart and a killer discount staring back at you on the shelf. You’ve got a steady collection of gifts growing in your storage and that peaceful, easy feeling every November knowing that all your Christmas shopping is DONE.

4. The Christmas ATM

Your Christmas shopping consists of making one trip to the bank, then you’re done. Everyone loves cash, and now everyone loves you just a little more than before. You order crispy, new bills and slide each one into money envelopes. Boom. Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.

5. The DIY Maven

Deck the halls with crafts from Pinterest, fa la la la la la la la la. You have multiple Christmas boards on Pinterest and boxes in storage filled with empty bottles, Mod Podge, glitter, coffee beans, plastic containers, an Exacto knife, and paint. This may be the year of the knitted owls or perhaps you’ll refinish that dresser you bought for $10 at a garage sale. Rock that innovative spirit, friend.

6. The Mad Dasher

It’s not that you meant to put off shopping for Christmas, it’s just that you put off shopping for Christmas. Now it’s here and you still don’t know what to buy that person. Over the years, you’ve mastered the art of selecting the fastest shipping for the cheapest rate the week of Christmas. But, this year, you’re strongly considering a stop at Walgreens on the way home to do a one-arm sweep of their gift cards. We all love ’em.
